Studying: COMPUTER SCIENCE at Oxford University

For me, Computer Science isn’t just about computers. A key quality it develops is problem-solving ability, offering a new perspective of any challenge you may encounter in life, providing a more analytical point of view. This course will help me gain the necessary skills to make a computer behave in the way I want it, to play with it like a virtual Lego game!

Beside Oxford, I applied for Computer Science and Philosophy at York, Exeter, Glasgow and St. Andrews, being accepted at all but St. Andrews. It was quite a shock when Glasgow’s offer came only after 12 hours from receiving my application! But my dream came true with Oxford! Why Oxford? It might seem easy to answer, but it is not. Maybe a short answer is “They are different than others, they seek enthusiasm in their students and they are one of the best in what they are doing”.

Albion, through Simon, opened my eyes and helped me gain confidence on my application. Before that it felt like I was in a fog, rather like the one everybody expects to encounter in the UK. The most important aspect of their support however, and the one I loved the most, was the help that Stuart Elford offered on my personal statement. Instead of interfering with my ideas, he always made suggestions about what to enhance, what to reduce and what is redundant, but all the changes were done by me. In the end, it felt mine and that felt awesome!
